The electricity generating industry faces
a substantial challenge in ensuring that the delivery of new
capacity will actually meet worldwide demand. Conventional fossil
fuel based power generation will continue to dominate
internationally particularly across India, Asia and Russia.
There has never been a more important period for
power generation in the UK. Along with challenges of securing
energy supply and the approaching Energy Gap, there is also the
issue of reducing the emissions currently generated by older power
stations.
The power generation mix will still include
fossil fuel generating capacity in the foreseeable future. This
will lead to a combination of life extension and clean up projects
for existing facilities as well as new build. In the UK current new
projects for coal and gas at planning stages will provide 14 GW of
capacity, with additional projects providing 4.5 GW capacity
nearing or under construction.
With brownfield projects costs running into
multi-millions and new build into billions there is a fundamental
need for these huge investment projects to be built on time and to
budget.
EC Harris is currently involved in power
generation projects with a capital value of over £5 billion. We are
a leading partner providing greater delivery certainty in the
execution of more effective projects. We achieve this by providing
strategic advice and expert delivery management for new
facilities.
