EC Harris scoops two awards
from the British Institute of Facilities
Management
[14 October 2009]
Built Asset Consultancy EC Harris has
received two of the FM industry’s most prestigious prizes at the
ninth annual BIFM (British Institute of Facilities Management)
awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on the
12th October.
The awards are the FM industry’s Oscars for
excellence and EC Harris walked away with not just one, but two of
the night’s major prizes. EC Harris and the Department for
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) won the BIFM award for
Impact on Organisation and Workplace for the transformation of the
DCSF’s Sanctuary Buildings HQ in London.
EC Harris also triumphed in partnership with
the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) being
awarded the Public Sector Excellence in FM Team prize for its work
with Information and Workplace Services (IWS), the in-house FM and
Estates team.
As part of the Government’s efficiency agenda
to save £20 billion by 2010, EC Harris worked with the DCSF to
introduce new ways of working at its HQ in central London. The
results were astounding, with the project team helping to achieve a
major reconfiguration of the existing building, allowing staff
numbers to increase to over 2,500 from the original 1,600. This
alone has helped saved the DCSF £10 million, plus ongoing FM
savings of £1m a year and an almost 50% reduction in the
department’s carbon footprint in London.
With BIS EC Harris worked in partnership to
deliver consistent improvement across the board in the department’s
FM performance. Workplace efficiencies have delivered not only
savings of £470,000 per year but introducing New Ways of Working
and space rationalisation has freed large amounts of BIS space that
is now producing income from new tenants of £24million.
Alan Kemp, Partner and Group Head of Asset and
Facilities Management at EC Harris, said: “To win one award is
immensely satisfying, but to come away with two of the main prizes
is just absolutely brilliant. It’s testament to our FM team’s
commitment to delivering positive outcomes and better value and
helping our clients maximise their built assets. For instance we’ve
been working with the DCSF for over fifteen years and this is
indicative of delivering partnerships of real value.”
